After the very successful and popular launch of the Boschberg Classic MTB and Trail run at the Boschberg Tourism Hub in December, work is going on apace to ready the complex for the official launch early this year. A dam is being dug, the roses and newly planted trees are thriving, and the road is in the process of being paved.
At a meeting with local sports clubs and bodies, a programme of events was planned. The Boschberg Classic will be held early in December each year, and a Mountain Bike Festival will be held each June. The local Athletics and Running Club would like to use the Events Centre as their Clubhouse, and after this year, will stage the Bruintjieshoogte Marathon to start and end at the Boschberg Hub.
A date will be chosen by the local Extreme runners, to fit in with the Extreme Running calendar, to stage a regular Boschberg Extreme event. The Running Club also discussed the possibility of holding Trail runs every one or two months, with breakfast served at the end.
There is great potential to get the entire community involved in the Trails and the Hub - this is why it was built, after all. The Sports Council plans to hold the AGM at the Hub, and in this way introduce the broader community to the amenities and activities available at the Hub.
The Bruintjieshoogte Marathon will be held on 23rd February; this venerable event has been attracting runners for many years, and is a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon.
