About Lavelilanga Women's Craft

Since 2005 Crystal Reid was operating her own business. She manufactured decorative products for the home and added school wear, leisure wear and corporate wear to her business.

When she moved to Somerset East she focused on manufacturing uniforms for the schools, churches, crèches, sports clubs and individuals.

She always had a desire to train the youth in the community in arts and crafts. In 2010 Crystal helped to establish a group of ladies to become self dependant in the industry of arts and crafts, creating decorative paper mache household items that were exhibited at the following:

  • In 2011 and 2012 they exhibited in Somerset East at the Biltong Festival
  • In 2012 they were invited to Graaff-Reinet to exhibit at the Withond Festival
  • In 2012 the Department of Sports, Arts and Recreation invited Lavelilanga to exhibit at the Grahamstown Festival.
  • In 2012 Lavelilanga attended the Proudly South Africa exhibition in East London. The group were encouraged to register their products with the Proudly South African brand.
  • In 2012 Lavelilanga Women Craft was registered as a co-operative.
  • In 2013 Lavelilanga moved into their new premises in the Somerset East Boschberg Tourism Hub

With pure determination and perseverance we are very proud to say that the sun has risen.
